On June 30, 2022, Musko Giizhigo Ikwe, an Anishnabbe Two-Spirit Knowledge Keeper and ceremony carrier, Maude Stephany, Founder of TransArtivistProject, Barry Moore of Out on the Shelf and ARCH, and Kristy Bell-Theodorakopoulos (a Two-Spirit Indigenous Algonquin of Kitigan Zibi, Bear Clan) came together to talk about Gender and Two Spirit with the Breezy Breakfast crew in a Zoom call.
Since the pandemic, the weekly Guelph political breakfast crew has been meeting via Zoom instead of in the former Breezy Corners (now Rise and Shine).
During the call, we talked about so many things: the cultural significance of Two-Spirit people and their sacred role within community, gender identity, the importance of learning an individual's pronouns (and stating your own) as well as a whole lot more.
Community members had the opportunity to ask questions, and panelists took time to respond to queries about how to use terms like "queer' and how to understand the intense pressure that gender diverse folks experience.
Thank you, Breezy Breakfast folks, for inviting us to participate and share knowledge with our community.
